WCPS Missing Work Policy

Policy Code 4400 Attendance

7. Makeup Work (K-12 as Applicable)

A student is responsible for all work missed when absent from school. Immediately upon returning to school, a student must make arrangements within the next five (5) days with each of his teachers to make up all missed assignments and tests. All makeup work should be carefully planned as approved by the teacher.

A student who is absent due to out-of-school suspensions or other disciplinary actions for l0 school days or less will be allowed to make up work missed during the absences in accordance with the conditions specified in A. above. Work missed is defined as daily work or any other tests or exams missed while under suspension.

Makeup work may be specific material missed by the student or it may be of a reinforcement or enrichment nature.

If a student is expected to be confined to his home and/or a hospital for an extended period of time due to injury, illness or other disability, the child's parent/guardian should be referred to a guidance counselor as soon as possible to obtain the services of a "homebound" teacher, if allowed under regulations governing such matters.

Teachers will not be required to provide makeup work for students following a no-credit determination by a school’s Attendance Committee or principal.
